I would like to introduce myself as a seasoned Vitreo-retinal surgeon with keen interest in research and academic activities along with excellent organizational skills. To give a brief about my past endeavours, I have completed my medical graduation (M.B.B.S.) from Grant
Medical college and Sir J.J. Group of Hospitals, Mumbai in 2004. Afterwards, I decided to pursue my post-graduation in Ophthalmology which I completed from none other than Aditya Jyot Eye Hospital Pvt. Ltd. in 2009. During my training I was exposed to all aspects of General Ophthalmology and performed many clinical and diagnostic procedures. I also performed and assisted various intraocular and extraocular surgeries as well as some laser procedures in ophthalmology. I attained proficiency in Small incision cataract surgery (SICS) and
Phacoemulsification Cataract surgeries. I also participated in organizing Screening Camps and CME’s, have worked as a faculty at Aditya Jyot Institute of Optometry. I have also been at the forefront of conducting both a few State and National level Scientific Conferences and have attended numerous local, state, national and international ophthalmic conferences and CME’s during my residency. After having an inspiring and rigorous post-graduation training at Aditya Jyot, I was keen to go one step further and specialize in my favourite sub-speciality of Vitreo-retina. As it transpired, I was fortunate enough to get selected for a two and a half years Research-cum-clinical fellowship in Vitreo-retina at none other than the prestigious Sankara Nethralaya, Chennai in the summer of 2010. It was like a dream come true!
My fellowship was a learning extravaganza where I studied and imbibed a plethora of diagnostic and management skills in medical and surgical retina with its intricacies. My skills as a general ophthalmologist were also polished and I learned a holistic approach to ophthalmology. The best clinical practice patterns were taught to me by my teachers and mentors. During my fellowship, I have assisted and performed many vitreo-retinal procedures and surgeries. I have had extensive experience in all varieties of retinal lasers and ophthalmic ultrasound. In my last six months of fellowship (senior residency), I was consulting and managing patients independently in the out-patient department. As a part of my fellowship, I have attended and participated in numerous teaching programs and CME’s and taken classes for post-graduate students. I also participated in many research projects and was part of a few peer-reviewed publications. After completing my fellowship there came another turning point in my career when I was offered the post of a Consultant at Sri Bhagwan Mahavir Vitreo-retinal services, Sankara Nethralaya, Chennai which I readily took up. After joining, I was extremely fortunate to be trained by the then head of department Dr Tarun Sharma who taught me the nuances of vitreo-retinal surgery. I worked at Sankara Nethralaya for almost six
and a half years which were filled with rich experience and learning from the most decorated vitreo-retinal department in the country. Finally, with a heavy heart I decided to say goodbye to Sankara Nethralaya and return to my home town Mumbai in May 2019. In Mumbai, there was no other place I would have loved to join other than my alma mater and I joined Aditya Jyot Eye Hospital Pvt. Ltd. for a second time, this time as Senior Consultant, Vitreo-retina in June 2019.
